Duke’s Grocery, Potomac MD
Duke’s Grocery presents itself predominantly as an upscale pub and rightfully so- And operates like clockwork that always makes me happy, until and of course, the usual number of items issue rears its ugly head. Owner cleared the date and time of the shoot, I assumed everything is set, and learned that they’ll only be…

La Villa Restaurant, Gaithersburg MD
La Villa Restaurant was one of my first shoots in northern Gaithersburg, and everyone knows this area for the Costco, now Sheetz, and the previously mediocre Lakeforest Mall. La Villa was a nice, roomy place with proper Salvadorian and Mexican offerings and remains open to this day.

Points South Latin Kitchen, Fells Point, Baltimore MD – closed
Points South Latin Kitchen was a great spot and a lovely shoot, as most of my Fells Point gigs went, and it’s sad to see that they have since closed down.

Donahue, Georgetown, Washington DC
Donahue was a swanky tapas place right on Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown of this town. Interior was posh, portions small as all “fine dining” places go that I personally will never understand, and all of the staff was most excellent and on point. And the food before me was as follows –

Very Juicy Bobs – Yummy Kabob & Cafe, Annandale VA
Not that I would call this area Annandale being across 495 and nowhere near Litte River Turnpike, but Yummy Kabob is a surprisingly spacious spot tucked perfectly away off of Gallows Road and Woodburn Road. I’ve had my share of Middle Eastern cuisine over the years, and somehow it isn’t often that I bump into…

Hip New Japanese Joint – Kema by Kenaki, Potomac MD
Kema was a very-well oiled machine with amazing staff, managers, and cooks collected into a very modern and cozy Asian style of a spot. Menu items rolled through me were some of the very, very usual maki rolls- Some nice and creative small plates and salads- Followed by the usual, American fancier rolls- And the…

La’Colombiana Restaurant & Lounge, Wheaton MD
This was an old, old shoot for me and boooooy do the new reviews tear La’Colombiana Restaurant & Lounge a new one! Sheeeesh. Ratings are probably well deserved now since lots and lots of places slopped down over time and there are Latin spots on top of Latin spots in the area.

La Bamba Restaurant, Silver Spring MD – closed
This was one of the more rare Guatemalan spots that has sadly shut down, and that’s a real shame because they had some nice and unique Latin dishes to the standard Mexican fare we’re used to seeing everywhere.

Jumpin Out The Pot, Arlington, Baltimore MD
Located right on the outskirt of Arlington and under Pimlico Park off or W Rogers Ave in Baltimore is the Jumpin Out the Pot – nice little soul food takeout I got to shoot some years ago. They’re still standing with positive reviews so that’s always a good sign.

The Grilled Oyster Company, MD
Back in my day, when Grilled Oyster Co. had 2 locations – I got to shoot both of them, and the one at the tip of DC was an extra fun experience to boot! The first location I got to cover used to be in Cabin John Village, MD (aka Tuckerman Lane plaza), about a…

Slow, Slow, If Only Steady – Ambrosia Restaurant & Bar, Cedar Park, Vienna VA
This was a neat little attempt at a Greek restaurant where everyone including the owners just dragged their feet, so despite actually decent food they got booted out by a Pizza Bolis. Say what you will, but if you’re a proper, full-fledged and long-standing restaurant that ends up losing to a mediocre pizza chain –…

Hull Street Blues Cafe, Locust Point, Baltimore MD
Hull Street Blues was a cozy, yet fancy spot well into Locus Point in Baltimore and offered nice American fare in a clean, white-clothed vintage space. Parking was much better than some of the other parts of Bmore and that alone can easily be a deciding factor for many, and belieeeeve me I know!

Bowls To Go Go – Yum Yum Hibachi, Ashburn VA
Yum Yum Hibachi is a brand new spot in a semi-odd-and-end area of the already odd-and-end Ashburn, but that is definitely to their advantage of having businesses to feed without the usual packed competition of all the strip malls around. Owners are very upbeat and enthusiastic, listening to their customers and serving them very well.…

Cafe Rice and Kabob, Sterling VA – Worth the Wait – (sadly closed)
This one started as many seem to the past few years – owners forgot about the shoot, or likely weren’t even asked when they wanted to do it (thanks corporate, keep up your cushy desk jobs away from traffic and car repairs!) so a reschedule pushed everything back a week. Not to worry since I…

Creek Lodge Bar & Grill, Rockville MD – Hunting For Meat
Creek Lodge is a very cozy and well-decorated local spot away from all the town center chaos. Food here was absolutely on point! In terms of the shoot though, having to wait for customer orders and pray there would be enough variety to hit my minimum numbers wasted a solid hour and a half and…
