The Nibbler, Gaithersburg MD
The Nibbler was one of the few places I got to shoot at the little strip mall all of the locals know located off of Woodfield Rd after the crossing with Muncaster Mill, across from Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut. Food here was solid, and it’s one of the few spots to offer my…
Las Cazuelas, Manassas VA – closed
Las Cazuelas was a nice little Mexican spot in the typical hole in a wall tiny mall much like the entirely Manassas VA, and it seems that about 4 years ago from today their quality tanked, thus causing the inevitable shut down. Seems like a place called Suyo Wild Chicken tried to take over that…
La Villa Restaurant, Gaithersburg MD
La Villa Restaurant was one of my first shoots in northern Gaithersburg, and everyone knows this area for the Costco, now Sheetz, and the previously mediocre Lakeforest Mall. La Villa was a nice, roomy place with proper Salvadorian and Mexican offerings and remains open to this day.
Bandit Taco, Washington DC
Bandit Taco was a fun old shoot at a spot that has since survived and rightfully so. Food was great when I was there, all the staff was fantastic, and the atmosphere is very nice and casual.
Abi Azteca, Germantown MD
Abi Azteca Germantown was your good old normal shoot, slightly ahead of schedule on an otherwise very nice and interesting day with an assistant friend tagging along with me and included Makeda Ethiopian shoot in Alexandria, VA.
Pio Pio Peruvian Cuisine, Great Falls VA
Pio Pio Peruvian is an awesome restaurant in the tiny crossing plaza of Great Falls VA that I passed hundreds of times before and since this shoot, and it’s definitely a hidden little gem! The shoot went well, the food was great, and this was during my busiest year to date.
Points South Latin Kitchen, Fells Point, Baltimore MD – closed
Points South Latin Kitchen was a great spot and a lovely shoot, as most of my Fells Point gigs went, and it’s sad to see that they have since closed down.
Proper Mobile Setup – Las Mexican Gorditas Food Truck, Arlington VA
Rarely do we get to see a proper, extended setup for food trucks in most metropolitan areas, and it was nice to see Las Mexican Gorditas tuck themselves just far enough from all the hustle and bustle to be able to set up comfortably and dish out their awesome street eats! Friendly owners, your typical…
Irish-Latin Fusion – Sully’s Pour House, Herndon VA
Sully’s Pour House was definitely a memorable shoot because this was the first time I’ve seen Irish and Latin cuisine intertwine properly without taking too many American detours typical for a bar menu. And one of the very few times I was presented some Xangos as a dessert over typical churros or tres leches.
Inka Social, Vienna VA
Inka Social was a real gem to find right in the Merrifield area about a block from Route 50 plaza full of other awesome spots, and right next to the Dunn-Loring Metro Station (beware DC metro though, those prices are way too pretentious like the town of DC itself). I modern Peruvian spot with lots…
La Prensa Tacos & Tapas, Nokes Plaza, Sterling VA
La Prensa Tacos & Tapas is one of the more rare, chic, yet not pretentious tapas places and right off the bat I recommend checking them out. The shoot was done perfectly and I got to see a good half the menu or so march before me and everything looked absolutely on-point. The drinks have…
La Cocina De Mi Tierra, MD
Originally I shot La Cocina De Mi Tierra at their old location in Bladensburg, MD, that wasn’t too far from one of my beloved Three Brothers locations, but it appears that they have since moved and expanded to Oxon Hill and District Heights. La Cocina that I shot featured a solid selection of Salvadorian food…
La’Colombiana Restaurant & Lounge, Wheaton MD
This was an old, old shoot for me and boooooy do the new reviews tear La’Colombiana Restaurant & Lounge a new one! Sheeeesh. Ratings are probably well deserved now since lots and lots of places slopped down over time and there are Latin spots on top of Latin spots in the area.
La Bamba Restaurant, Silver Spring MD – closed
This was one of the more rare Guatemalan spots that has sadly shut down, and that’s a real shame because they had some nice and unique Latin dishes to the standard Mexican fare we’re used to seeing everywhere.
La Mexicana, Germantown MD
La Mexicana was a cozy Mexican spot in Germantown and they were excited to get some proper shots of their authentic dishes, so I delivered right on point. Their interior is lovely as well as cozy- Definitely the spot to check out if you want a calmer setting than other fiesta loca kind of places.
