Doing A Ghost Kitchen Right – DisBe Good DC, Ivy City Food Works, Washington DC
And of course the name was Disbe Good, not Desbe Good like the corpos passed down to me….so very typical for a desk jockey that can’t even seem to google anything right….. This crew with the owner, Phil, at the helm do an amazing Africa-inspired takeout plates with both proper, juicy, and tender suya, as…

Silver Spoon Kabob Restaurant, Gaithersburg MD
Silver Spoon Kabob was one of the few places I got to shoot at the little strip mall all of the locals know located off of Woodfield Rd after the crossing with Muncaster Mill, across from Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut. Very homey kind of spot with really good Pakistani ‘bobs and curries, run…

Azan Karahi N Kabab, Baltimore MD
Azan Karahi N Kabab was a nice little shoot away from downtown hustle and bustle, located in one corner of Security Square where I70 dissipates into local roads. Simple cafeteria style decor, at least when I shot there, and simply good and honest Pakistani food.

Very Juicy Bobs – Yummy Kabob & Cafe, Annandale VA
Not that I would call this area Annandale being across 495 and nowhere near Litte River Turnpike, but Yummy Kabob is a surprisingly spacious spot tucked perfectly away off of Gallows Road and Woodburn Road. I’ve had my share of Middle Eastern cuisine over the years, and somehow it isn’t often that I bump into…

Tastes Like Home – Eerkin’s Uyghur Cuisine, Georgetown DC, Rockville MD, Fairfax VA
Shooting this spot again was a real throwback to years ago when I shot them shortly after they opened for a certain corpo whose name sounds like Ozone, but is anything but amazin’, when they tried to enter the already piss-poor delivery app stable and failed faster than their prime delivery speeds. Eerkin’s, however, survived…

Get Food and Get Hookah – Ebril Kabob, Fairfax VA
Located right off of Arlington Boulevard in Fairfax area, more specifically at 3210 Old Pickett Rd in a tiny plaza with another location of Hot Spot Hot Pot, Ebril Kabob dishes out their authentic Iraqi cuisine and has a connected hookah lounge next door if you’re here to relax before or after your meal. Name…

Al Pacino Cafe, Reisterstown MD
Al Pacino Cafe was a nice Italian spot along Reisterstown Rd not too far from 695, and the shoot was proper smooth sailing. This was definitely the first time I’ve seen lamb chops offered in an Italian spot as well as kabobs and shawarma, alongside some pasta and calzones!

Bistro Lazeez, Bethesda MD – closed
Bistro Lazeez is a nice Syrian and Lebanese quiet little restaurant right on Norfolk Avenue. Shoot went well here, as most of them did in Bethesda. Owners and staff were great, the atmosphere was very relaxing and they had a very nice and quaint patio seating too. Sadly, this place has long-shut down.

Cafe Rice and Kabob, Sterling VA – Worth the Wait – (sadly closed)
This one started as many seem to the past few years – owners forgot about the shoot, or likely weren’t even asked when they wanted to do it (thanks corporate, keep up your cushy desk jobs away from traffic and car repairs!) so a reschedule pushed everything back a week. Not to worry since I…

Library Tavern, Washington DC
Library Tavern right off of 3rd street NW was a fantastic shoot a few years ago since I got to cover them for 2 corpos and do so efficiently in one go, but the real treat actually lied in the food itself for once! Besides an amazing 2-story setup with pool table in the lounge-styled…

Rus Uz, Alexandria VA – A Rare and Tasty Sight in DMV
Rus Uz is another local rarity of a full blown Russian and Uzbek restaurant, and the team of Alexandria location was eager to get more pro work done despite already having every inch of their menu shot for their own website. Times like these are uplifting compared to quite the number of places that don’t…

Vim and Victor, Springfield MD
Vim and Victor was a clean and modern, upscale setup kinda restaurant in Springfield and this shoot, unlike the rest of the day having to drive back and forth to Fredericksburg, actually went very well.

Samovar, Rockville MD
Once upon a time, Rockville town center used to house a now-closed Russian and Uzbek restaurant called Samovar (translates as fancy tea kettle that self-boils water) right across from the venerable, Greek place Trapezaria. For the overall decent population of Russians and various -stanians in the greater DC area this always struck me as odd,…

Grill Kabob, Tysons Corner VA
We all know the Grill Kabob chain of restaurants and I have done quite a few locations over the years at this point. Always straight-forward and pleasant shoots of my favorite middle eastern kabobs.

Kiroran Restaurant, Fairfax VA
Kiroran was a treat to shoot because among the slew of Chinese, Korean, and wannabe Japanese places ran by Chinese or Thai staff, an actually different Asian spot was a welcome break from the usual for me. Uyghur cuisine – derivative mix of Chinese and Pakistani and Khazak dishes that we definitely hardly ever see…
