Slow is Good – Uncle Marco’s Express, Gaithersburg MD

239 Muddy Branch Rd, in what we usually call the Lotte (Mart) Plaza used to house quite a slew of restaurants that I got to cover in the past like Boca Botanas, Cruudo with its ghost kitchen Herby Vegan, and finally became Uncle Marco’s sometime in 2024.

Menu here is quite the mix to say the least with items ranging from $2.95 to $61.95, and averages are about $16 per item, but every single thing is absolutely worth every penny!

Food here is absolutely fantastic be it from the hot bar or from the kitchen itself.

Kicker this shoot was the wait time. Good food takes time, always, but running only customer orders through me through the entire late lunch rush on a Friday honestly got to me, especially since getting the group shot of 5-6 plates was mostly impossible since tables typically just ordered the same cheapest anticucho plates and individual customers only got 2 plates max. I barely had 5 shots out of 15 I needed by the time my watch said I’ve been warming my seat for well over an hour. My usual quick thinking only managed to help expedite that situation once the entire rush was done after pretty much watching a dozen of people munch and take their Friday time.

Despite that however, one of the owners present was always upbeat with regulars, practically lived inside the kitchen besides running the orders out along with his younger waitstaff, and was radiating love and care for his business and patrons and I love seeing that among plenty of places that barely seem to care.

I definitely recommend checking Uncle Marco’s if you’re in that area and fancy a Peruvian plate or even two for lunch or dinner.
