Nim Ali was a very cool, albeit extreme early morning shoot of a crew that shares a restaurant space for half a day to make some visually outstanding Guatemalan street hot dogs called shukos as well as some other little bites. Since then, they have fully established their own proper spot and have been dishing out these goodies left and right!
Normally, something like 8am and through morning into-DC traffic never bodes well with me, and had this been some generic Chinese takeout or another pollo a la brasa place – I would’ve been kinda mad for the crack of dawn appointment hours, but Nim Ali was an absolutely pleasant surprise as I was yet to see a loaded hot dog as pretty as a shuko. Enchiladas that I would normally classify as tostadas? Interesting! Haven’t really seen garnachas up to this gig either. Variety is definitely the spice of life and I always enjoy seeing unique flavors compared to the overwhelming amount of the same-old Tex-Mex stuff regardless of how well they are executed.
