Miss Toya’s Southen Kitchen, Rio, Gaithersburg MD

Miss Toya’s Southen Kitchen is part of Miss Toya’s local chain of southern and Cajun restaurants in the DMV area, and one of them I got to shoot located in Rio.

The first time around I arrived to but one prep cook having zero clue about anything even remotely close to a photo shoot an hour prior to their normal opening hours so I called that a day and that was that. To my surprise, however, I got pinged to go there again and this time tried to confirm that the same situation wouldn’t happen – never heard back from my given Person of Contact. The morning of I ended up with a small emergency prior to this, but luckily it wasn’t too far and I made it to the shoot that was expected and well into prep this time around. Everything went well, food looked really good, and I left with empty hands as per new usual, so the only thing I can tell you is – the chefs here present the dishes very, very well and going by smell alone, the food really seems to check out.

The interior is pretty neat here, branded nicely, and having a mix of cushioned benches or red metal chairs to park your hind on.

Food and drinks look a little something like this:

At the end of the day, I’d trust this place and it gives off somewhat similar vibes to Hook & Reel with far less stress on seafood and more on the shmeats.
