Very Bright and Very Early – Around the Clock Chicken and Fish, Capitol Heights MD
This was one of the few, 7AM kind of early food shoots and Around the Clock Chicken and Fish is you no frills, Southern fried chicken and fish kind of restaurant that does proper food.
Miss Toya’s Southen Kitchen, Rio, Gaithersburg MD
Miss Toya’s Southen Kitchen is part of Miss Toya’s local chain of southern and Cajun restaurants in the DMV area, and one of them I got to shoot located in Rio. The first time around I arrived to but one prep cook having zero clue about anything even remotely close to a photo shoot an…
Former Abi Ethiopian, now Shewa Ethiopian Restaurant, 1824 and 1826 Benning Rd NE, Washington DC
I’ve known this spot for years as they changed names, but their direction was always the same – standard fried food takeout with your standard burgers and cheesesteaks, as well as Ethiopian food given the good old owners being from there. I have shot them twice for corpos under Abi name, but double-checking the state…
Jumpin Out The Pot, Arlington, Baltimore MD
Located right on the outskirt of Arlington and under Pimlico Park off or W Rogers Ave in Baltimore is the Jumpin Out the Pot – nice little soul food takeout I got to shoot some years ago. They’re still standing with positive reviews so that’s always a good sign.
El Pulgarcito Grill, Woodbridge VA
El Pulgarcito Grill was a nice Salvadorian spot all the way down in Woodbridge, VA, and majority of the shoots I’ve down there were smooth sailing aside from traffic to get there and escape from the general area.
Skyline Cafe-Ethiopian Cuisine, Falls Church VA
Another back-to-back-to-back Ethiopian spot in this little cut of South George Mason Drive in barely Falls Church VA. This one did not leave an impression like Nazret and Balagger did, but the food here is also pretty good, so you can always flip a 3-sided coin to decide which one to try out.
Balagger Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar, Falls Church VA
Balagger was a fantastic spot I got to shoot twice in that awkward cut of George Mason Drive that also house Nazret Ethiopian and a few other places. In fact I was supposed to shoot a new spot a few weeks ago until the owners bailed out, so there’s that. The second time we did…
Makeda Ethiopian Restaurant, Alexandria VA
Makeda Ethiopian Restaurant located in a little plaza right off of Van Dorn Street South was a fun shoot from back in the day and was perhaps one of the more Western feeling Ethiopian spots that I’ve ever been to. Owners, staff, and of course the food are on-point here as are the drinks and…
Asian Cuisine & Seafood, Gaithersburg MD – Tiny New Spot In Town
Brand new Chinese spot right off of Snouffer Road in Gaithersburg past Taco Bell and Checkers that offers quite a bit of proper seafood unlike most similar spots. Seems like they got tuckered out by all the other delivery shoots and forgot plates for little old me today, otherwise things went smoothly.
Hip-Hop Fish & Chicken, MD
I think we all know Hip-Hop Fish and Chicken by now, and I knew them well before getting to shoot one – there is something to powdered sugar on your hearty portions of fried chicken. Over the years I shot about 3 locations and of all the franchises, these guys keep their quality consistent across…
Jazzy’s Seafood, Gaithersburg MD – Fried Ocean Goodness
Jazzy’s was an awesome little shoot, though oddly enough it was for a certain pizza promoting company that generally has zero to do with seafood. I wasn’t paid to worry about the logistics, so I did what I do best. Fried offerings here were on-point!
Mr. M’s Restaurant and Catering, Randallstown MD
Smooth shoot at Mr. M’s with plenty of jolloff rice for me to ogle.
Golf Ultra Lounge, Silver Spring MD
Golf Ultra Lounge was one of my early and first African places and all of the food looked new and interesting to me. Smooth shoot here, and the place is still around today.
5 Sisters Restaurant, Laurel MD
5 Sisters was a smooth sailing gig at the end of one night and the menu did not disappoint as well as the sheer size of this restaurant and bar.
Los Chorros, Wheaton MD
Los Chorros is an excellent Salvadorian restaurant with its share of Mexican dishes right off of University Boulevard in Wheaton, MD. I definitely recommend checking them out! Nice and easy shoot, and I would be back a year or so later for a take 2.
