I’ve known this spot for years as they changed names, but their direction was always the same – standard fried food takeout with your standard burgers and cheesesteaks, as well as Ethiopian food given the good old owners being from there. I have shot them twice for corpos under Abi name, but double-checking the state of things for you readers today, they’ve once again changed names and now are Shewa Ethiopian. It also seems like they’ve picked up a nice name for the fried side of things – Royal Rooster.
The food here always checked out, and they’ve always had the usual Benningzens of the road poking their heads in asking for /free/ food all the while this place ALWAYS had “help wanted” signs up from as long as I can remember. Seems like work is a foreign or forbidden concept in this part of town to everyone but the business owners who are making their honest living despite people they have to deal with day in and out. This is also the last Ethiopian spot in DC if you’re headed eastward and is worth a peep. Parking isn’t abysmal either if you poke a street up or down and walk on over.
