Elena James All Day, Chevy Chase MD
What a fantastic discovery was Elena James All Day! Weather and parking odds were stacked against me this day, and arriving way too early got me to peruse a nearby Amazon Fresh’s ice-cold AC as well as peruse some of their grocery pricing along with my friend in tow while we waited for my appointment…

A New Hidden Gem – La Coop Coffee, Arlington Forest VA
Tucked almost awkwardly away off of Arlington Boulevard in the southern Arlington area sits one location of La Coop Coffee – a neat little local spot with some seriously good sandwiches as well as caffeinated beverages unlike quite a few other place. Drinks go as follows – Some usual bakery items and bagels – And…

Le Tried and Le True – Vie De France Bakery & Cafe, Potomac MD
Once upon a time I got to shoot one of my old, global faves that I discovered well before even picking up a camera, and the one you’ve all seen in just about any major city or area – Vie De France. The location I got to cover was not my original find, but it…

Sindy’s Deli & Cafe, Columbia MD
Sindy’s Deli was an early morning shoot on one helluva cluster of a day, but was worth it because I always enjoy seeing a good deli in the DMV. This spot is still up and running well, unlike the grill I had to rush to from here that did not stand the test of time,…

A-Deli Italian Food & Wine, Worldgate Center, Herndon VA – closed
Looks like another one bites the dust as I check back on my past shoots – A-Deli was a decent, cafeteria-style spot that catered to the corpo center is was inside of and I wonder what cased these guys to fail… This shoot was smooth but at the crack of dawn, which I still loathe…

Fully Loaded Heros – Capo Italian Deli, Tyson’s Corner VA
Capo Deli was a pleasant surprise to shoot considering that delis are fairly rare in the DMV, let alone those that properly mirror those of NY, and Capo seems to nail the idea! A quote from them directly, “Reminiscent of the old school, traditional Italian deli’s found in NY, Philly, and Boston… No gimmicks, no…

Taylor Gourmet, Washington DC
Does DC absolutely lacks proper deli’s as a whole? Naturally. Are new attempts at bringing proper sandwiches, albeit not 24/7, to the streets welcome? Always! Taylor Gourmet was a newer kid on the block in the sandwich game when I got to shoot their new location at Pike and Rose in North Bethesda (and screw…

Baltimore’s Best – Frank’s Pizza & Pasta
When I receive a job for a pretty much entire menu of any place, it tends to raise flags of corpos being lazy and just throwing an arbitrary minimum number of plates that seldom ends up being so when I get to the place. I went ahead and rang Frank’s Pizza & Pasta to confirm,…

Cozy Sammies – Sisters Sandwiches and Such, Olney MD
Sisters Sandwiches and Such gig began a few days prior with the owner decided to do our shoot at this location over Germantown and I was quite thankful to avoid Friday morning traffic north. The day of – a brief and usual introduction to the staff at the counter who then began looking for a…

Small Town Chance and Charm – The Village Store & Diner, Keymar MD
When my work doesn’t directly involve restaurants and takeouts, I often get to pass by small towns and the second I see the words “deli” or “diner” I make it a point to stop by on my way back (unless I explore different routes to and from a gig, at which point it’s keeping my…

Eataliano Market & Deli, Columbia MD – Like Nonna Used To
Eataliano Market & Deli – new dual-duty spot in Columbia, MD, that has a kickass authentic Italian deli and market with its name being a nice pun, as well as a proper pizzeria all in the same cozy space. Owner and the staff are pretty chill, which can be a 50-50 roll of the dice…

Polka Deli, Silver Spring MD
Polka was a smooth and lovely shoot of a relatively rare, Polish deli and mini-market right next to the late Pollo-Mex in Colesville Center right towards the very north part of Silver Spring. Pork schnitzel subs, kielbasa and other eastern European hot and cold cuts in abundance here.

A Baked Joint, Washington DC – story
A Baked Joint is a fantastic bakery, cafe, and effectively deli with a switch to pizzeria towards the evening in DC. I got to shoot them twice to cover both ends of their spectrum and shoots themselves were done smoothly. The food is on-point here too. The real story here is entirely about the back-end…

Subway, Chinatown Washington DC
Won’t name the exact location, but THIS was one of my first times shooting a Subway location and you can clearly see how much that location cared about their food’s appearance on a brand new online platform….but I’m sure this is of no surprise for anyone reading.

Prego Deli, Capitol Hill Washington DC
Prego Deli off 7th street NE across from Eastern Market is my old time favorite despite pretty good offering from inside the Market itself. Tiny, family-run spot with excellent sandwiches and other deli bites that you can’t really go wrong with. Finally shooting here professionally was a real treat!
