Another absolutely fantastic Latin spot with proper selection of sandwiches, small bites, and of course tacos! As usual, management forgot to inform anyone about the shoot happening, but given clearly good management here the shoot went under way promptly (and dishes absolutely did not disappoint!).
Food always reflects how any place is run and smooth operation at El Rey definitely reflects through the entire menu. Presentation is also quite up to scratch and works very well with the lively and colorful vibes of the place itself –
Clean and relaxed atmosphere is what I will always prefer to any fine dining and the like.
The honest culprit of the day was a brand new Japanese spot I was to shoot pretty much around the corner from El Rey and there were more hiccups over a photo shoot they apparently did not need, yet accepted and confirmed and getting even the bare minimum plates I needed was cordial, but a bit of a chore. One thing that makes coming back to a place after stalling a dead hour is seeing one of my faves – pollo milanesa torta – at the gig that gets on-board with the program from the get go like El Rey.
All in all, El Rey Ballston is a solid spot for some tasty tacos and definitely for drinks to add some happy to your hour!
