Sisters Sandwiches and Such gig began a few days prior with the owner decided to do our shoot at this location over Germantown and I was quite thankful to avoid Friday morning traffic north. The day of – a brief and usual introduction to the staff at the counter who then began looking for a name I haven’t even given for a takeout order only to hear me say “photo shoot” one more time as the owner himself walked in right on time. The kitchen knew what was up, the owner was there to direct his orchestra, and they actually had a cozy set of tables upstairs given the downpour happening outside, so the show began.

The sandwiches brought to my hungry camera were the absentees from some other shoot they had in the past, and after looking at the menu I knew I wasn’t getting to shoot their best ones. Se la vie, et une bonne vie it is when my time is saved rather than wasted. I witnessed some interesting sammiches nonetheless, like the meatloaf Terminator –

And then the packed Reuben and their loaded roast beef,

The rest of the lineup was as follows –

Cozy, classic and with-a-twist sandwiches that looked and tasted just right. I like a balance between a wannabe or straight up gourmet, and something one can throw together at home with lunch meat, and Sisters nails this sweet spot. Nice bread is there, variety of prepped meats, and pickle spears as a default with every ‘wich. Lighter than bread offerings were more than present as well here with a selections of salads and some interesting combinations-

Plates flew out of the kitchen and the shoot went promptly and perfectly. Props were offered and accepted, good reviews written. It’s a pleasure to see properly run mom & pop shops in the ocean of either corpo chains or completely oddly surviving spots, and believe me those still exist in almost every area for some reason or another.
I definitely recommend checking out Sisters Sandwiches if you’re passing either one of their locations!
