Asian Origin, Tyson’s Corner VA – closed
Asian Origin was one of my first and only shoots on the other side of Tyson’s mall, where I somehow never tend to end up even for personal shopping. This was a proper, nice restaurant that has sadly closed since I’ve been there.

The Entire Spread – Akai Tori Ramen & Yakitori, Vienna VA
This was a surprising and pleasant shoot one Friday after I’ve done a couple already, and Akai Tori Ramen made my inevitable misery in beltway traffic afterwards completely negligible with the bump in pay for shooting pretty much their entire menu. That menu was no joke by sheer nature of a Japanese barbecue done right.…

Hip New Japanese Joint – Kema by Kenaki, Potomac MD
Kema was a very-well oiled machine with amazing staff, managers, and cooks collected into a very modern and cozy Asian style of a spot. Menu items rolled through me were some of the very, very usual maki rolls- Some nice and creative small plates and salads- Followed by the usual, American fancier rolls- And the…

Sushi Mori, Sterling VA
Very cozy little sushi spot out across from Dulles Town Center and in the same plaza where my favorite Irish pub used to be. The shoot was as good as their dishes! And here is the interior and vibe –

Toryumon Japanese House, Washington DC
Toryumon is a nice little swanky hidden gem around DC’s white house area, and you’re in for a treat if you manage to find it! This shoot went smooth as ramen you slurp up, but usual DC parking was, well, usual DC parking.

Andy’s Restaurant Sushi, Georgia Ave, Silver Spring MD
I did get to shoot this little nook we’ve all seen hundreds if not thousands of times right after Exxon going towards 16th Street NW coming from Wheaton or 495 and heading back out that way. Seeing how that space has been taken over and given the grand presentation I received to help them with…

Sushi Capitol, Washington DC
Sushi Capitol was a neat little, cozy hole-in-the-wall place I had to shoot in the odd hours of one evening and battle the very moody internal lighting.

Asian Spice Cafe, Ashburn VA – Another Hidden Gem
Asian Spice Cafe is a lovely fusion place of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine and they do it all very well! The drinks are also very reasonably priced, so it’s a solid experience to come and dine here with plenty of variety to choose from!

Takumi, Falls Church VA – Just Like Japan
Takumi was my off-duty discovery while grabbing lunch one busy work day and boy was this an amazing find! This is probably one of the very best Japanese sushi restaurants in the entire DC area and all of the fish just melts in your mouth as it would in Japan itself (and I have been,…

Mr. Sushi Mrs. Roll, Landsdowne VA
Mr. Sushi Mrs. Roll was a smooth shoot at a lovely Japanese spot with some Korean menu influence and used to sport 2 locations back in the day. Nice owners, cozy decor, and overall good food filled this place.

Kisso Asian Bistro, Alexandria VA
Kisso was an excellent little spot in downtown Alexandria and the second asian bistro I’ve seen do the whole ice sculpture pizazz with their sushi plates.

Kumo Asian Bistro, Alexandria VA
Kumo Asian Bistro – one of my to-date fave shoots that I got to do several times over the years and the owners as well as staff were some of the best I’ve met. Plethora of creative and amazing looking and tasting dishes with plenty of Japanese offerings, like gallery above, and then Chinese and…

Zento Restaurant, Alexandria VA
Zento was an excellent shoot and a great Japanese spot in northern part of Alexandria downtown. Excellent presentation, atmosphere, and staff!

May Island, Alexandria VA
May Island I fell in love with from my first shoot there, and I have done them right a couple of times since. It’s a very cozy spot with excellent owners and staff, very good variety of dishes, and awesome little details like carrot cats! Definitely recommend grabbing lunch or dinner here if you’re ever…
