Notos Southern Bites (Kabob), Laurel MD
Naseer and his brother, the Ahmad brothers, did one of my overall favorite things – combined American Southern fried chicken with the Mediterranean kabobs, shawarmas, curries, and sauces in their humble, no-frills Notos Southen Bites (or Notos Kabob Halal) in Laurel, MD. I’ve seen this done a couple of times, one such example, and I’m…

Chit Chaat Cafe, inside Mobil1 Vienna, VA
Well this place was a surprising treat to say the least thanks to chef Tihara’s warm hospitality and quick prep of the dishes. They have a sign outside that helps notice that the spot is inside the Mobil1 gas station, and I have done loads of similar setups that are almost impossible to find when…

Lamoon Thai, Silver Spring MD
Lamoon Thai is a nice little hidden gem right by the downtown SIlver Spring Safeway, and the food here is awesome! The shoot went well aside from the typical parking situations in this area. This was also of the few places that presented more interesting Thai dishes than the usual pad Thai, drunken noodle, and…

Aladdin Restaurant, Arlington VA
What used to be Aladdin Sweets and Tandoor eventually became Aladdin Restaurant and this shoot went perfectly fine some years ago. Half made to order entrees, half the good and usual Bangladeshi buffet style kind of place in west Arlington off of Langston Boulevard.

Trinidadian Indo Fusion – Teddy’s Roti Shop, Washington DC
Teddy’s Roti Shop is a cozy spot off of Georgia Ave not too far down from from downtown Silver Spring and offers a fairly unique menu to your average Caribbean aka mostly Jamaican offerings, namely all the awesome bread options to go with the stewed shmeat and fish. This shoot went very well, despite being…

Sushi Mori, Sterling VA
Very cozy little sushi spot out across from Dulles Town Center and in the same plaza where my favorite Irish pub used to be. The shoot was as good as their dishes! And here is the interior and vibe –

Cafe Rice and Kabob, Sterling VA – Worth the Wait – (sadly closed)
This one started as many seem to the past few years – owners forgot about the shoot, or likely weren’t even asked when they wanted to do it (thanks corporate, keep up your cushy desk jobs away from traffic and car repairs!) so a reschedule pushed everything back a week. Not to worry since I…

American Airlines vs Japan Airlines – International Flight Meals and Booze
JAL Upgraded Flight Over It’s finally time for some stories from my brief trip to the land of the rising sun last year, and the only proper way to begin is with the airline meals and beverages offered. Major preface is to avoid American Airlines as much as possible, especially if you’re connecting flights since…

Urban Tandoor, Arlington VA
Got to shoot one of the overall few local Indian chains, Urban Tandoor, at several of their locations and several times per location. Overall solid food and smooth shoots each time!

Mad Cow Grill, Laurel MD
Mad Cow Grill instantly became my fave little spot for pit stops between shoots and especially location to end my days with after the initial of the two shoots. This place had a creative decor akin to a ranch, very nice booth setups, really good-looking murals, and great bartenders on top of solid selection of…

Agni South Indian Cuisine, Sterling VA
Agni South Indian Cuisine or Agni Bar and Restaurant was a neat little shoot where the owner took some shots as well, and being located in the same plaza as one of my fave Irish pubs O’Faolains that has sadly closed down. Agni featured some very neat table decor that I haven’t seen in too…

Thai Cafe, Springfield VA
Another good shoot this one. Thai places in general don’t really disappoint, or perhaps I haven’t really bumped into a bad one on my journeys just yet.

Kabob Villa, Alexandria VA
Kabob Villa was a smooth gig with very well presented dishes and lots of curries and sauces in a little bar that’s actually not too common of a sight.
-

Saffron Indian Cuisine, Rockville MD
Saffron Indian Cuisine is a nice authentic Indian restaurant right off of Rockville Pike in Sunshine Square. In and out smooth kinda gig and the place was very solid without much competition in the immediate area.

East West Grill, Arlington VA
East West Grill is a nice, quick counter-serve spot for halal meats and burgers. Always a pleasure seeing kabobs, gyros, and other middle eastern fare and this was a decent gig in all.
