Shawarma Hut, Washington DC – story

Besides several reschedules, booooy was this shabby little takeout hilarious when the shoot finally happened!

“So, how’s paying for allll this food?” they actually asked me. That’s right. And naturally they got a,

“Hell, my guy, not me.”

Blank stares ensue to which I just had to tell them to one- call the delivery corpo and talk to them about it; two- I’m getting paid for showing up either way, so whether they go on with pics or without with that attitude is entirely up to them and I’ll turn around a head out if I don’t see any cooking happening. And the very next day was an even funnier story that began right after this little gig.

Overall, I’ve seen places try to shove me in the kitchen and be let down by the fact that I needed a collective shot of whatever they’ll run through me since the customers aren’t typically keen on waiting for 5-10 plates to be prepped first, but not often did I get the “who’s paying” kind of an argument. And as usual, all of these things are easily solved over the phone while these places are told of the shoot, what it entails, and the scheduling of it. Supposedly at least. In reality, about a fifth of all the places assume the shoot has to do with their venue, to help show it off and thus drive customers to them and away from the greedy corpo that’s paying for the shoot. Not how that marketing works, buddy, not even for a second.
