Once upon a time, Rockville town center used to house a now-closed Russian and Uzbek restaurant called Samovar (translates as fancy tea kettle that self-boils water) right across from the venerable, Greek place Trapezaria. For the overall decent population of Russians and various -stanians in the greater DC area this always struck me as odd, but at the same time majority of Russian cuisine is bland in taste despite being generally rich kinds of dishes. The Uzbek side of things absolutely livens things up with pilafs and kabobs.
