Hunan Number One was one of my very, very early shoots outside of the later corpo routines and I got to know the amazing owners quite well over the years. This place had good happy hour, hosted various events and gatherings, and was an overall solid spot for a good meal and a good time. They have gone through several decades of changes and told me stories of delivery drivers blatantly eating the picked up food before canceling the jobs and similar incidents after I came in to do one of the corpo shoots there in the fall of 2018. Owners used my early shots across their menu as well, so every time I came by I got to see some of my very first work displayed quite a bit and that was heartwarming.
They’ve apparently shut down in August of 2019 and it was very sad news to hear, since I doubt anything better will move into their space and operate nearly as well as they have.
