Notos Southern Bites (Kabob), Laurel MD
Naseer and his brother, the Ahmad brothers, did one of my overall favorite things – combined American Southern fried chicken with the Mediterranean kabobs, shawarmas, curries, and sauces in their humble, no-frills Notos Southen Bites (or Notos Kabob Halal) in Laurel, MD. I’ve seen this done a couple of times, one such example, and I’m…

Sally’s Cafe, Sterling VA
Sally’s Cafe was a very nice spot not terribly far from Dulles International Airport and located in this business park sort of close to Pacific Boulevard. The food choices here range from American to Greek and Mediterranean and are all very, very good! The shoot was very good as well.

Lebanese Bistro, Burke VA – closed
Lebanese Bistro that has been taken over by Ch MC Korean Fried Chicken, was actually a hidden gem located in the same little plaza as H-Mart. This was a fun, brief shoot and their food was absolutely on-point. Really a shame to see that this place had to close.

Parthenon Restaurant & Chevy Chase Lounge, Washington DC
Parthenon Restaurant is definitely a great Greek spot in the middle of Chevy Chase right off of Connecticut Avenue and is worth a visit! The shoot here went very well and the food was excellent!

Al Pacino Cafe, Reisterstown MD
Al Pacino Cafe was a nice Italian spot along Reisterstown Rd not too far from 695, and the shoot was proper smooth sailing. This was definitely the first time I’ve seen lamb chops offered in an Italian spot as well as kabobs and shawarma, alongside some pasta and calzones!

La Jolie Bleue, Georgetown DC – closed
La Jolie Bleue was a very cute Mediterranean bakery outside of the mental center of Georgetown and had lovely owners as well as dishes. Sad to see this one go, but it is an extremely competitive froufrou of an area and places like this generally tend to struggle to survive without aggressive marketing.

Slow, Slow, If Only Steady – Ambrosia Restaurant & Bar, Cedar Park, Vienna VA
This was a neat little attempt at a Greek restaurant where everyone including the owners just dragged their feet, so despite actually decent food they got booted out by a Pizza Bolis. Say what you will, but if you’re a proper, full-fledged and long-standing restaurant that ends up losing to a mediocre pizza chain –…

Plaka Grill, Vienna VA
Plaka was a straight-forward shoot at a nice sister location Greek spot out in Vienna VA.

Leon, Washington DC
Got to shoot first Leon location on the east coast, or at least DC, and it was here that by their marketing grapevine did I learn what corpo delivery sales made in their cushy desk jobs that absolutely pissed me off knowing how carelessly they do them. Leon itself was a good shoot with their…

Delia’s, Arlington VA – story
Oh Delia’s Arlington – seems that they’ve either moved since the old S Glebe road location no longer pings. Booooy was there a story tied around this place in the most unusual way to what I’ve wrote about thus far, but that would later repeat itself several times…. Initial shoot here was fantastic and I’ve…

Gyroland, Rockville MD
Gyroland was a very fun and a little challenging of a shoot since I had to get with all sorts of colors of lighting before, during, and after sunset as the owner and her line cooks were rolling out the shmeats and various dips. The vibe was amazing and I’ve been back there several times…

Granada Restaurant and Cafe, Herndon VA
Granada was a cool Turkish and Mediterranean spot in Herndon, but has since shut down. The shoot was awesome and we pulled a table right outside and used the sunset at the end of my day to get a ton of dishes taken cared of.

Vasil’s Kitchen, Gaithersburg MD
Very, very cool spots in Kentlands with great staff, decor, and classic Greej plates. Vasil’s is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and are in the mood for this kinda cuisine and a roomy bar. Very smooth shoot.

Vasos Mediterranean, Alexandria VA
In terms of food and decor and staff and even owners – Vasos is excellent! When it comes to grabbing my personal shots of the interior and blatantly using them on their website without a sliver of permission, after discussing a proper interior shoot and even a virtual tour. Just goes to show you how…
