A Baked Joint, Washington DC – story

A Baked Joint is a fantastic bakery, cafe, and effectively deli with a switch to pizzeria towards the evening in DC. I got to shoot them twice to cover both ends of their spectrum and shoots themselves were done smoothly. The food is on-point here too. The real story here is entirely about the back-end of corpo broken telephone that I got to learn about via these shoots.

Some novice excuse of an account rep from a certain hub kept fighting my delivery project schedules as I was adjusting them to work out smoothly having to do 2 sessions here and details being actively changed was getting on my nerves. I finally got a call from the rep whom I chewed out somewhat and learned how this wonderful corpo actually operates – like pure terror.

You have your scouting cubicle slaves who find restaurants and hash out the details for the shoots. Then, this information gets passed down to another incompetent rep who tries to pair that broken telephone info to a photographer whose schedule would allow it. This process is absolutely mental as crucial information gets lost about 3 times before it eventually reaches me. Imagine having any changes to the schedule when it has to go through 2 extraneous parties to reach the intended one from the client? Who does this ass-backwards kind of organization?? And learning of this process, you just can’t help but feel sorry for the client restaurants who have to deal with the same nonsense if they need to resolve any back-end issues that prevent them from doing their business on the platform. Just holy Christ!
